WELCOME to The Emergency Repair Disk Companion (ERDC)
for Windows NT !

From now on, the danger of not having an up-to-date
Emergency Repair Disk will be a thing of the past.

Network Administrators will be particularly fond of
ERDC because their server and client computers will
drive much safer now. And with the logbook feature,
they can exactly tell which client has an Emergency
Repair Disk, and which not.

Private users will like it, too. No more sleepless nights
at the keyboard, trying to restore the system config-
uration after a hard disk boot failure.

Topics in this README:

1. Installation
2. Latest information
3. Uninstallation

=======================================================
1. Installation

ERDC can only be installed on a computer running Micro-
soft Windows NT for Intel, 4.0 or later.

If you received ERDC on diskette, insert the diskette
in the drive. Start explorer and display the files on
the diskette. Double-click "SETUP.EXE".

If you downloaded ERDC, copy the files to a temporary
directory. Start explorer and display the files in
this directory. Double-click "SETUP.EXE".

In either case, SETUP will now guide you through the
installation process.

When installation is complete, run ERDC (the executable
file name is RDiskC.EXE), click Help/About, and read
the 'Introduction' topic.

=======================================================
2. Latest information

This file contains latest information that could not be
included in the online help and/or printed manual.

AutoUpdate
----------
The manual and online help say that AutoUpdate is a
bonus feature of the registered versions of ERDC.
This restriction has been waved.
Beginning with version 1.1b, the AutoUpdate feature is
now included in the shareware version, too.

New online help
---------------
The online help has been rewritten from ground up. It
is now much more comprehensive than before, even more
than the manual (.DOC file) was is previous versions.
Therefore, a .DOC file is no longer included in the
downloadable shareware version. This reduces download
time considerably.

=======================================================
3. Uninstallation

If you would like to uninstall ERDC, click the START
button and select Settings, Control Panel, Software.
Pick 'Emergency Repair Disk Companion' from the list
and click 'Add/Remove'. NT will do the rest.

Note: You need not uninstall ERDC in order to install a
later version. The new program will recognize the older
version and do all that's necessary.

Note #2: ERDC should have been run at least once before
trying to uninstall it. This is because some information
which the uninstaller needs is being created by ERDC
at run time, not at installation time.
